Laura Michie - President

Hey! I’m Laura the President. I am in my final year of studying Marine Biology and I am an Ocean Diver and loving it.

I love diving, even in the UK and have had some wonderful dive trips with this club, the best has got to be our wonderful trip to Lanzarote.

It is my job to look after the members of the committee and the dive club and to liaise with our Students' Union and keep things running smoothly. I am pretty relaxed and generally just up for a laugh (but can be serious when needed) and hopefully will see you soon for some Diving!

Whoop!
Diving Officer - Cathy Boorer

Hey, I’m Cathy, the Diving Officer. I’m in my third year at the moment studying Marine Environmental Science, so luckily I get to combine my diving experience with my course quite a lot, woo!

I’ve been diving for years (didn’t really have a choice – my parents chucked me in the Med with an aqualung on me when I was 5!).

I’ve been all over the world – my favourite dive so far has got to be cave diving in the cenotes in Mexico, but messing about with UPDUC in Lanzarote has to be a contender for favourite dive trip as well!

I’m in charge of all diving safety within the club, any planned trip ultimately goes through me. I’m currently a BSAC Advanced Diver and Open Water Instructor, so despite my reputation for faffing, I can actually help out with a lot of questions you may have about diving or training.

Secretary - Collette Raine

Treasurer - Sachin Patel

Hi, I'm in my final year of my Masters in Project Management having already been at Portsmouth for my Hospitality Management degree for 4 years (you may read this again below).

This is my 2nd year as the club Treasurer and it is my responsibility to look after all the monies of the club and to make sure we don't spend too much (so look after that kit!). As well as that, I oversea membership as and when required or in the absence of the membership secretary.

I have been in the club now for 2 years and am currently an Ocean Diver. I love the dive club as it has such great people in it and it is so easy to make great friends. So if you have any questions about the club, diving, club finances, membership...the list goes on, please feel free to ask or get in touch.
Membership Secretary - Chantel Ingarfield

Hi, I am your Membership Secretary for the dive club.

I'm in my a third year, studying marketing. During my time in the dive club I have qualified as an ocean diver and can't wait to do some more diving this year!! Aside from diving I do a little bit of Ballroom and Latin American dancing but other than that I pretty much spend the rest of my time clubbing, socializing (come on, it's uni!) and stressing about some coursework that I have left to the last minute, as usual.

Happy Diving :)
Training Officer - Viki Patterson

Hey guys :) My name is Viki Patterson and I am your Training Officer this year.

I will be keeping track of new divers' progress and ensuring that everyone completes their chosen course thoroughly.

I am a Second Year Marine Biology Student.

I qualified as an Ocean Diver in Summer 2007, and have dived in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and off the South Coast of England. I have a real passion for the underwater world and the sights there never cease to amaze and fascinate me. That most people never get to see it firsthand is a shame, and I hope anyone who can do so would take the opportunity to discover it for themselves.

Apart from SCUBA, my other interests are singing, socializing, and having fun! Hope to see you all at the pub and enjoy this year’s diving! xxx
Advanced Training Officer - Bruce Collier

Hey, I'm Bruce the Advanced Training Officer. I am in my fourth year at Portsmouth. I spent two years doing Computer Engineering and decided it wasnt for me, I then transferred to Computer Games Technology which is amazing and I love it.

Like Cathy, I have been diving since I was a little kid, although I formalised my training when I was twelve. Since then I have trained both PADI and BSAC all of my life, and I've even thrown in some TDI for good measure.

Now I am a BSAC and PADI Open Water Instructor as well as a BSAC Advanced Diver. I have dived all over the world and have had some amazing experiences.

As the Advanced Training Officer for the club I work closely with Viki and Cathy, organising dive courses and training above Open Water Diver and Ocean Diver. I'll be sorting out loads of training courses such as O2 Management, First Aid and Boating.

Any questions just find me at the pub on a Tuesday.
Equipment Officer - John Davis

Hi, I’m John, and I’m the Equipment Officer! I’m a mature student, but I still know how to have a good time! Marine Biology is my subject, and I’m in my final year.

I used to be a hotel manager before learning how to dive whilst in Australia on a round the world trip. I’ve been fortunate enough to dive in some great places, such as The Great Barrier Reef, South Pacific Islands, Catalina Island, The Bahamas, and many places around Europe. Whilst I have been diving in the UK, I do prefer warmer waters! I loved diving so much that I became a PADI Divemaster in under a year, and left my career to be a marine biologist.

It’s my job to make sure all the equipment used by the club is in good condition, serviced regually, and that you have what you need to go diving! So you could say I’m “well equipped”. If you have any equipment needs or issues, send me a message.
Boat Officer - Ben Taylor

Hi, I'm Ben and this year's Boat Officer. I only started diving last year but have had loads of fun and enjoyed many awesome times.

I'm pretty relaxed about everything, don't like to do the whole stress thing, will talk to anyone really so don't be afraid to come and ask me about something. If I dont know the answer I will just try and make it up (or if it's really important find out!).

See you at freshers!!!
:-) x
Social Secretary - Fleur Antoine

Hi, I'm Fleur and I am your Social Secretary alongside Nick.

I am currently studying MSc Project Managment after having done a BA in Hospitality Management.

I joined the club last year and have become an Ocean Diver and I absolutely love it! However, I might have to admit that I enjoy the social side of the club a bit too much! Come and see Me or Nick if you have any suggestions or ideas for social events. I'm very approachable (especially after a glass of wiiiiiiine) and I won't bite.....hard.

I love going out with friends and meeting new people, having a rave and just generally having a good time. All in all I just love loving my life!!!
Social Secretary - Nick Bush

I'm Nick, and at diveclub, we understand that getting a degree takes a lot of work. Therefore we spend our free time scuba diving and drinking. Occasionally we sleep. As social secretaries, it's the job of Fleur and I to handle the drinking side of the club. I'm pretty sure I didn't mention drinking enough in the last sentence, but it's also worth noting that while we're not shamelessly drunk, we intend to organise many fun activites for fellow members, including the christmas party/dinner, and any other suggestions that are passed to us.

I'm currently entering my second year of an English and Media Studies degree, but when I'm not watching television or occasionally reading a book, I enjoy putting my PADI open water qualification to good use. The word 'enjoy' is presence in that sentence confuses many people as I've never dived outside the UK, but I can reassure anyone considering training on this fair isle, that there are some great wrecks out there. Apparently there's some fish as well.

Anyway, if you have any queries about when social events are happening, or wish to suggest some of your own, come see Fleur or I, and we'll sort you out.
